More than 500,000 form four students across Tanzania began their journey to the national form four examination on November 13, 2023. The National Examination Council Of Tanzania (NECTA) has released detailed statistics revealing the breakdown of candidates, examination centers and special needs issues.

Of the registered candidates, 543,386 are school students, 250,237 boys (46.05%) and 293,149 girls (53.95%). Additionally, 28,952 independent candidates are participating in the exam, with 11,867 (40.99%) males and 17,085 (59.01%) females.

The exam is administered in 5,371 schools and 1,798 independent candidate centers across the country. To ensure inclusion and support for all students, NECTA has processed 614 candidates for schools with special needs. These include 283 students with low vision, 24 with total blindness, 135 with hearing disabilities, 11 with systemic mental disorders, and 161 with physical disabilities.

On a positive note, the number of school candidates has increased by 1.61% compared to 2022, and 534,753 students registered to take the exam last year. This upward trend shows the growing importance of education and the desire of young Tanzanians to seek opportunities for higher education.

The NECTA Form Four Examination is an important step for students in Tanzania, to conclude their secondary education. The NECTA Form Four examination timetable for 2023 shows that the exams will begin on Monday, November 13th and end on Thursday, November 30th. The following are some important dates from the timetable:

• Monday, November 13th: Civics and English Language
• Tuesday, November 14th: Basic Mathematics and Kiswahili
• Wednesday, November 15th: Biology 1 and Geography
• Thursday, November 16th: History, Building Construction, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Drawing and Chemistry 1
• Friday, November 17th: Physics 1 , Engineering Science and Bible Knowledge (or Elimu ya Dini ya Kiislamu)
• Monday, November 20th: Biology 2A (Practical) and Fine Art 1
• Tuesday, November 21st: Chemistry 2A (Practical) and Book Keeping (or Wood and Painting Engineering or Electronics Draughting)
• Wednesday, November 22nd: Physics 2A (Practical) and Qualifying Test (or Architectural Draughting or Electrical Draughting or Automotive Engineering or Electronics and Communication or Manufacturing Engineering)
• Thursday, November 23rd: Music 1 and Theatre Arts Arabic Language (or Biology 2B (Practical))
• Friday, November 24th: French Language and Chemistry 2B (Practical) (or Literature in English Additional Mathematics)
• Monday, November 27th: Music 2 and Chinese Language (or Biology 2C (Practical) or Agriculture 1 or Food and Human Nutrition 1 or Textiles and Garment Construction 1)
• Tuesday, November 28th: Fine Art 2 and Information and Computer Technology (or Physics 2B (Practical) or Agriculture 2 (Practical) or Textiles and Garment Construction 2)
• Wednesday, November 29th: Chemistry 2C (Practical) and Physical Education (or Information and Computer Studies 2 (Practical))
• Thursday, November 30th: Physics 2C (Practical)
