TAMISEMI Criteria For Form One Selection

Form one selection is an important moment in a student’s educational journey in Tanzania. It sets the stage for their secondary level school education and, ultimately, their future. Therefore, it is important to understand the criteria used by TAMISEMI to make this selection in order to increase the probability of being admitted to a school that matches the student’s goals and abilities. Below are the criteria used.

The primary requirement for Form One selection is that the student attains a score ranging from 121 to 300 out of a possible 300 marks in the primary school leaving examination.

All government boarding secondary schools are national institutions, meaning that students who meet the selection criteria for these schools come from all regions of mainland Tanzania, reinforcing the sense of nationalism.

These schools are classified into three groups: boarding high schools for students with the highest academic achievements, technical boarding high schools, and standard boarding high schools. Below are the procedures and criteria for distributing students to these schools.

1. Boarding high schools for students with the highest academic achievements: Admissions to schools for students with outstanding academic achievements are allocated based on the number of standard seven candidates registered in each respective Region.

These placements are distributed nationally using a standardized rule. The available slots for each Region are distributed equally among the Councils, regardless of the number of candidates registered in each Council. These schools include seven institutions: Msalato, Mzumbe, Kilakala, Kibaha, Ilboru, Tabora Girls, and Tabora Boys

 2. Technical boarding high schools: Vacancies in Vocational Secondary schools are distributed among the Regions based on the number of standard seven pupils registered in each Region. This allocation is made following the national guidelines for vacancy distribution. The positions allocated to each Region are further divided equally among the Councils, irrespective of the number of candidates registered in each Council
